Bela-Bela is a well-known resort town in the Limpopo province. The area is especially popular with people from Gauteng, as it is a short drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria.
This is true bushveld, with the added benefit of being a malaria-free area, which is great for families.
We love Mabula Game Lodge. Lots of activities for children and adults alike, and you can experience the South African bush and the big 5 without giving up on the luxuries like fine dining and a spa.
Mabula has all the safari activities – game drives, bush walks and night drives. They also offer horseback safaris and the option of having a breakfast in the the bush.
What sets them apart is the Cubz Club – a specialised kid’s activity programme which is available during the holidays. Kids will go on their own game drives and bush walks, play and learn about the bush and all the animals. There is also a kiddies playroom and childminders are available if parents want to have a romantic dinner.
We particularly love the Mabula self-catering units, which is great for families that need space. All the units are well-equipped, but note that some are further away from the central entertainment area than others.
The hotel rooms offers interleading rooms, which is also great for families, or your kids can sleep on the sleeper couch in your bedroom.
